Re: create track into existing route

Hello Roland,

My conclusion about getting extra baseboards was more or less the same. Nevertheless, I hoped to have another option. ;)

Why? When you compare the merging option in TS10 and TS12, I must say TS12 is a nightmare, especially when busy with large routes. In TS10 one has the possibility to enlarge the merging window, which simply is not availble within TS12 :( .

However, in Ts10 the taddeamon error pops up with a route size around 550Mb. In TS12, I did a test with several lines, creating the map, utm tiles and the track splines and I had a route of 850Mb.

But, I also noticed that TS12 has a route size limitation. I created the complete Belgian railway net ( map, utm lines, 1 track and I had a route with a size of 1,1 Gb. No problem with that route.

So, I also added the coastal line to the complete Belgian railway net and I got the taddeamon error. So TS12 route size limitation is around 1,4Gb.

Of course, the remark can be said - why bother in making such a large route. What is the possibility the route will ever be completed?

At least I would like, starting with the coastal tram route, to get every train line, starting from a station which is also on the tram route. All train stations on the coastal tram route are already present.

From Knokke, Zeebrugge, Blankenberge I would like to have the train route to Brugge.

From Oostende to Gent, perhaps Brussel.

From De Panne to Gent.

Do you have some other miracles available? 8-)

Best regards

Hello Roland,

Something else.

I created a map and utm tiles of an area ( see picture )

Image

When I created the map - I had the WvlOvl_TransDEM_info.txt in the folder with the following info.

TransDEM Trainz Export --- © 2006-2011 Roland Ziegler

Geodetic Datum = WGS84
UTMZone = 31U

UTM Southwest Corner Easting = 464000
UTM Southwest Corner Northing = 5618880

UTM Northeast Corner Easting = 548960
UTM Northeast Corner Northing = 5691600

Extension East-West = 84.960 km
Extension North-South = 72.720 km

Trainz World Origin = N 51° 02,919' E 3° 05,855'

Baseboard UTM Grid Offset: x = 0 m, y = 0 m

# Trainz Baseboards East-West = 118
# Trainz Baseboards North-South = 101
# Trainz Baseboards total = 11918
# actually created Trainz Baseboards after filtering = 10762

Actual Elevation Range Minimum = -12 m
Actual Elevation Range Maximum = 165 m

I had a look at my Coastal route, however I noticed that the info txt file is no longer in it.

Is there a way to re-create this file?

I'm afraid you cannot recreate the file but you can retrieve the important coordinates of the edges - with a little trick.

In Surveyor in your existing route lay some track spline near the outermost edge of that route, where you want to join with the new module.

In TransDEM import the track splines from that route. Locate the edge track spline, zoom in, and display the baseboard grid. This will enable you you draw and adjust the rectangular export mask for the new route module. (If you assign a name to the mask, you can also save it for future use.)

Hello Roland,

Must I lay the track spline in a straight line?

If you have a look at the picture? Must I first fill up the gaps?

Kurt,

in Surveyor define and identify the baseboard where you want to join with the new route segment. The mini-map is a good starting point for that. Zoom in to that baseboard and lay a piece of track near that edge. Save and open for edit in CM.

In TransDEM load DEM and raster maps large enough to cover both the existing and the new route segment. Import the track splines from your existing route. Then find that piece of track you just laid in Surveyor.

Set the export mask for the new module, with the help of the baseboard grid in TransDEM.

Don't leave gaps. If you end up with one or two overlapping baseboards where the two modules join, particularly if you have some sort of a jagged edge there, delete the excessive baseboards in Surveyor.

Hello Roland,

Thank you for the info.

First, I have to solve something within the route - which has nothing to do with transdem.

Then I will start my tests.

Hello Roland,

I did the test - piece of track was laid near the edge and had no problems within Transdem. :D

In Trainz TS12 however, merging large routes is a problem. :( One doesn't get an overview of both large routes to be merged. Impossible to enlarge the merging window in TS12.

I will have to look for another method. Probably adding baseboards from within TS12 -

Not? I thought I did exactly that sometime ago, with two large route modules in Canada, prior to TransDEM 2.5.1, to find out about the problem of suppressed baseboards near the edges. Each of the modules was much longer than the Kusttram. And I remember I was able to zoom in and out and to pan in Trainz Surveyor, in the merge window. And that does not work in your environment?

Hello Roland,

In TS10 I get a merging window and when I go to an edge or to a corner of the window, I can enlarge it and I have a perfect view on the situation.
Absolutely no problem to place the 2 routes in their exact position and merge them. The size of the route is limited to approx. 550Mb otherwise the taddeamon error pops up.

In TS12, however, I get an window ( 15 x 14 cm ) and I just cannot enlarge it ( no double arrow appears when standing on an edge or standing in a corner of the window ). No perfect view for a merge.

Best regards
