Old DEM files question

#1 Post by DaveL »

Hi Roland,

I have a bunch of files identified as "xxxxx.DEM.SDTS.TAR". (These were made in Feb. 2010)
I'm able to 'unzip' them and drop the .TAR
How can I see them in TD?.....my memory is not real good....I do not even remember how I made them in the first place !!

Dave,

I'm afraid TransDEM can't read them. SDTS is a very complex format and has also fallen out of fashion. The SDTS DEMs were replaced by USGS NED (National Elevation Data) which no longer requires proprietary file formats.

Thanks Roland,

I was afraid that might be the case.
