Can't select objects above UTM overlay

Have generated an overlay that is underneath ground level. But for some reason, I can't select splines that are placed above through Transdem with the UTM tiles present. I have never encountered this situation before.
Was quite keen to tidy things up with the route. But interaction with the roads and track looks to be out of the question, unless the overlay is removed.
