Incorrect user number and more

I'm in the process of doing the 'Muengsten' tutorial. I imported the three files into TS2010 as required. The first two times I went through the process they all indicated a fault. I thought I found the reason was because the user number I entered in the KUID had a suffix 0 (Zero) added making it a 7 digit number. (I had done a copy/paste of the number from my Auran account). The third time I ensured that my ID No. was entered correctly in the KUID.
After import to TS2010 I checked and found that the Muengsten file showed my user name but the two UTM tiles still showed the 7 digit number within my KUID. Again all three files show 'Faulty'.

Error: This asset has a trainz-build number which is not recognised by this tool.

I suspect I am going to have to purge the 7 digit ID from Transdem's memory and restart the process. As to why the 'Muengsten' file shows my username and still shows 'Fault' I have no idea.

Help and advice appreciated.

Hi Dave,

It sounds to me like you have "TS12" selected in the lower left of the "Export to Trainz" dialog. This will create an asset with trainz-build 3.4. If you don't have TS2010 SP4, then you should choose "TS2010" in that dialog. This will create an asset with trainz-build 3.2 and you should be fine (I hope). :D

Hello Andrew
Thanks for your reply.

I have found that it is possible that the wrong TR version was selected in the dialogue. I use the monitor with Acrobat reader and Trainz windows open at the same time. I have to ensure that I click on Acrobat before touching the mouse wheel otherwise if the last item selected in TD is still active it will 'roll' to the next alternative.
Today when attempting to recreate the muengsten export to TR2010 I found Transdem would not allow the creation of a new DEM. Very few menu selections were available on the Toolbars and New was not one of them. I've uninstalled the programme together with any data files exported to TR2010 and will try a complete reinstall and re-input of data.

You cannot create a new DEM from "naught". The "New DEM" function is intended for manual DEM editing. It requires some georeferenced maps already loaded. Otherwise TransDEM would have no clue where on earth ( ;) ) to place that DEM. Such a manually generated DEM will also be flat after construction. You would then apply the control point feature to shape it. For the standard workflow you will not need this function. Instead, you will download your DEMs from the various geo data resources, simply open them and - apart form merging - hardly ever manipulate them yourself.

No reason to reinstall.

I'm afraid I don't find your response helpful. You haven't made any comment regarding the initial problem I encountered. The reason I reinstalled was to attempt to correct the false I/D 'remembered' by TD.

After reinstall I found that TD still remembered the personal data I had input. It remains to be seen if the files exported to TR2010 are acceptable to that programme.

My most recent intention was to completely clear the screen and re-input all data to completely revise the export to TR2010. I eventually found how to do this by toggling buttons on the toolbars.

The Trainz KUID consists of the User-Id, the Object-Id and, optionally, a version number (which will make it a KUID2 in Trainz lingo). The User-ID you set yourself and that's the ID you received from Auran/N3V. You could use an arbitrary ID but that could make problems later in the process on the Trainz side, perhaps you already ran into such a problem.

The TransDEM settings allow you to set the User-Id at any time. In the Options | Settings dialogue you will find a tab for the Trainz parameters.

The Object-ID part of the KUID is issued by TransDEM. The number of available Object-IDs is limited and if you create tens of thousands of UTM tiles you might eventually hit that limit. But that's surely not the problem at the moment.

If the TransDEM created objects report faults in Content Manager, check the cause of the errors. If it's the Trainz build version, then SharkNose has already given the answer. You must set the Trainz version in TransDEM correctly. Trainz file formats have changed with each version of Trainz and a TS2010 installation will not understand files generated for TS12. (It should work the other way round, but you would not utilise all the features TransDEM may create for the later version.) The Trainz build version is kind of a helper label, that allows Trainz Content Manager to quickly check the asset before digging into its internal structure.

Thank you geophil and SharkNose

I re-entered all the necessary data correctly and exported the results to TS2010. The contents manager accepted the files with no faults indicated.

I've opened in TS2010 and was able to view the route.

Enough for today.

Many thanks to you both.
