Konnichiha min'na "(^.^)"

First thing to know is, I am a new user of T-Dem 2.5 (and TRS2006) and may I say, TDEM is a very nice program ! I hope I will learn so much from people here "(^.^)"

Second thing is, I discovered how to use "Raster Map > Map Tile Servers" and how to "get map" with this [►] and [Get Map], so I can see something like that : http://www.internet-underground.org/public/trainz2006/raster-map-tile.png

Q1 : I know there are a lot of tiles (_georef) but I am still exploring TDEM and my question is ehm.. is that correct or not ? If not, I am fully open-minded to be guided...

Q2 : I am using 56 kos internet connection (I pray Gon-san for that) and its very slow to see each tiles... gomennasai "(^.^)" but is it possible de save my "raster map" to continue later ? I tried to check the "Menu > Raster Map > Save Raster Map" but the button is gray. Maybe I have to use "Menu > Raster Map > Save georef Raster Map" (?)

I suggest to do Tutorial 7: Map Tile Services, TransDEM main manual, starting on page 145. It shows how to start with an overview map, then create a path to acquire all map tiles along the path in an automated step.

Using the "along a path" will save the map tiles automatically and will also build the group file to load all files with a single open file operation. If you interrupt the process you can edit the path to acquire only those tiles that are still missing. (Windows will save the previous tiles in its web page cache, accessing the same tiles a second time will be much faster.)

Before to post, yes I read the tutorial 7 from page 145 (that is why I wanted to show what I have done) but I just wanted to be sure if is the good way... Regarding "acquire all map tiles along the path in an automated step" I didn't see that, I will have to read again "(^.^)"

Here is my bug, the map is too big ; over 13 lines and over 25 km <---> long. I can not see railroads at 12 and 15 zoom level ; missing details, curves and so on. That is why I have to use zoom level 18 and many tiles... or (of course) I do not understand your last line...

The two step approach only makes sense if zoom levels for the overview and the detail map are different. The path you need for acquiring images automatically does not have to accurate. A rough sketch will do. Draw some polylines with the built-in Simple Route Editor. You can use fewer points than in the tutorial.

Zoom level 18 is very high detail. For Trainz ground textures zoom level 14 to 16 are appropriate (with 16 requiring the 5 m terrain grid). Have you looked at the "transport" rendering for Open Street Map (Tile type "Other 2")? It should show underground sections of a metro from zoom level 13 on.

Try zoom level 13 for the overview and 16 for the detailed map.

I am really certain I need this kind of map tiles, but in my case, it is not really necessary having/using DEM topographic map (yellow and green reliefs) as many tutorials say. People needs "DEM" because they want to copy a realistic environment (I respect that) but in my case, I am simply looking for subway routes ; from there, I will make my lines as a train, not as underground. That is why I am confused between what I am looking for and what I need to read here and/or in some tutorials.

I also read, most people use Google Earth to see where they are going, but I am with 56 kos internet and I can not really use "Google Earth" to follow people as well, and I am not totally sure if Google Map or Earth can read Tokyo Metropolitain Subway Route Map ; that is why I really need Open Street Map (as suggested) to start with Nishi-Magome (Asakusa Toei Line).

I just wanted to "copy" real routes from Open Street Map > Transport Map Tiles and import them on the game (replacing gray tiles) or something like that, I do not know how it works. But from there, I will have to follow the path from station to station using tracks (in surveyor mode). After that, I will install pylones, electric cables, external stations (Nishi-Magome, Magome, Nakanobu, etc) and finishing with backgrounds, buildings, highways for realistic views and natural routes (as Iberian Interior 4 > Main Line) in TRS2006, excluding fields :

Try zoom level 13 for the overview and 16 for the detailed map.

About overview (zlev 13), some stations can not be showed because distances between stations are very closed (every 1.5 to 2.0 km) x18, x20, x25, x28 stations ; Tokyo, Toei and JR routes are not just simple campagn routes with horses and cows asking for foods, I really need to zoom in for details. It is not a question of times and hurries but I just want to work cleanfully (as you do I guess). You can see the difference between zooms with TransDEM / Open Street Map :

-> Raster Map > Map Tile Servers
-> Map Provider > 5 Open Street Map
-> Tile Type > Other 2 (transport, using your XML sheet)
-> Zoom 14 (vs 18)
-> Coordinates : 35° 37' 17.70" / 139° 43' 26.80"

Again, the "Quick Start Guide" is your friend. It will point you to the "Muengsten" tutorial, from page 55 in the TransDEM Trainz manual. It will tell how DEM, raster map and vectors are combined to produce a terraformed and pre-painted Trainz route template.

The purpose of the overview map is to allow you roughly sketch the course of your railway/metro line(s). You won't need any details here, just an idea where stations are and how they are linked.

If you generate route for TRS2006 then be aware of the more restricted resolution of ground textures by the 10m terrain grid in Trainz. (The TransDEM Trainz manual has details. I suggest to read the chapter "Trainz Export Functionality in TransDEM" in the TransDEM Trainz manual, page 16.) Zoom level 14 or 15 is maximum. If you really think you need level 17 or 18, generate UTM tiles in addition to ground textures.


Once more, following the "Quick Start Guide" and also reading a few of the chapters about functionality in the manuals should answer many questions, particularly those on the basic route generation process.
