is there an Aussie that might be able to help out using it? and where to get the data from the video talk about a site to get Canadian data is there something like that for Australia that is free to download that kind of data..

I'd be very grateful for any help I can get.. thanks ...

Well off to watch the video's again..

The easiest combination is SRTM for DEM terrain and Open Street Map (or another Map Tile service) for maps to find your railway. So, if you follow the Quick Start Guide in the TransDEM Trainz manual, it should take you there, even if the Map Tile tutorial in the manual is for a place in Germany, half around the globe from Australia. There are more advanced geo data sources which may be specific to a region, however, I recommend against them until you have accomplished results with the simpler data sources.

My biggest issue is Time I guess I have had a go at the tut you mentioned yep I did the demo stuff.. but all of it was already on my PC did have to go look for it..

I have managed to get the route as a flat Dem into my trains with those lovely Google images as the ground texture..

but I can't seem to find the elevation data for love nor money..

Again, check the Quick Start Guide. It has a short chapter on the SRTM standard data source for DEMs. Find the right file (TransDEM will assist you), download, open, and voila.
