create track into existing route

Hello,

At this moment, I'm busy with the creation of a tramroute which follows a major part of the Belgian coast.
I also used Transdem to get tracks and roads into the route.

All the above went absolutely fine with transdem.

I have also started the preparation of a next route, which will be a trainroute of West-Vlaanderen ( province within Belgium ).

My tramroute is also in West-Vlaanderen and I would like to start my trainroute from within the tramroute.

So I opened the tramroute and saved it as kust151211.

I then went into content manager v3.3 ( trainz 2010 ) and opened the kust151211 with the option edit in explorer, so that it came available in userdata\editing

To continue, I opened transdem, opened my DEM-file, opened my georef raster map and opened the route.

I then created a new map with DEM elevations etc ... and was able to select the kust151211 in the section export destination. The other parts, being creates UTM tile objects and track splines went without a problem.

I didn't receive any kind of error.

After the above elements were done, I went back to content manager, reverted the route and started trainz from within content manager. I opened the route kust151211 and saw that no tracks ( auran tracks TS2009 concrete) were in the route.

Did I forget something in the above used method? Or is the above used method not useable?

When I create everything in a complete new route in transdem ( section export destination ) the tracks ( Auran track TS2009 concrete ) are visible within the new route.

Does anyone have a solution? 8-)

Thank you.

Best regards

Kurt :)

Not an error, but there should have been a double warning that you were about to overwrite an existing route.

Basically, when selecting an existing route name, TransDEM wipes the route folder before creating brand new files. New means new KUID for the route as well. I am not quite sure how CM will handle this on commit.

However, if you revert the route in CM, all the files created by the recent TransDEM export will be ignored.

Hello Roland,

Thank you for your reply :D

Yes, I received both warnings that I was going to overwrite an existing route. I'm starting the whole process again, but instead I will try to commit in place of revert.

Will report later on.

Hello Roland,

Trying to commit I received following error - Unable to commit changes to asset <kuid:457924:100107> as the config file contains the wrong KUID

When opening the config file, I saw the following kuid <KUID2:457924:20067:1>

I changed the kuid number, saved it and then committed the process.

Process went all the way.

My complete route with tracks and scenery was replaced by a route with the Auran track TS2009 concrete in it.

Although this process worked perfectly - this was not what I had in mind. I would like to add the track to my present route and save it into a new name. This route will then be ready for my next trainproject.

Best regards

Kurt

I was expecting some safeguards. And apparently they exist. :o

There are always ways to bypass safety measures.

I hoped so and I'm glad you say this. What you did was to substitute your entire route with a brand new one.
I would like to add the track to my present route and save it into a new name. This route will then be ready for my next trainproject.
The way I would do it is to save the route under a new name in Surveyor first. This creates a copy. Then open this copy for editing in CM.

In TransDEM do not recreate the terrain, as this will completely erase your present route copy. Instead, simply add vector data and/or UTM tiles by only using the two other exporters. TransDEM will read essential information from the route files, to verify consistency, before adding anything to them. That's why TransDEM must be capable of understanding the file formats Surveyor is writing.

After TransDEM has done its work, commit in CM. You will then still have your original copy, where TransDEM will have added data in the previous step.

Hello Roland,

Thank you for the solution :D. I also created a roadroute and riversroute with Transdem, but separately. Now with your solution, I can get the complete Belgian railwayroute, roadroute and riverroute into my existing tramroute.

Until next time ...

Best regards

Kurt

This thread was intriguing to me.

I have noticed the vector export dialog allows export of vector data of many different types from TransDEM into TRAINZ, for example: rail lines, roads and watercourses. However, the export window only allows export of a single type at a time.

After reading the thread, is the following a proper outline of the procedure to get multiple vector data from TransDEM into a TRAINZ route?

1. Create the route in TransDEM,
2. Export all three aspects (Ground Textures, UTM Files and Vector Data), probably putting in rail lines as the first type of vector data.
3. Commit it into TRAINZ
4. Copy it with a different name and prepare for edit.
5. Create new a new vector map with a different type of vector data (road, for example) and then export that.
6. Add the newly-exported data in during editing of the copy.

Hello George Nelson,

Method that I'm presently using

1. Create the route in TransDEM,
2. Export all three aspects (Ground Textures, UTM Files ( I will continuous use it as from now ) and Vector Data), and take rail lines as the first type of vector data. I used a logical name as route name - for example TramrouteTR ( which means tramroute with track in it )
3. export the content into TRAINZ
4. I then save the route with a different name ( for ex TramrouteTRRD ( which means tramroute with track and road ) and open it for edit ( in content manager )
5. Create a new vector map with a different type of vector data (road). Create the utm tiles objects and track splines
6. commit the TramrouteTRRD ( in contentmanager )
7. If I want to continue - I save the tramrouteTRTD with a different name and open it for edit
8. Repeat point 5
9. repeat point 6

Best regards

Kurt

You only need the round trip with Trainz Content Manager in between, if you want to edit your route in Surveyor before adding additional vectors/slpines.

Otherwise, you can add as many spline objects as you like to a route that has just been created (DEM/ground textures). The only limitation is that all vectors currently loaded in TransDEM will be converted to the same spline type, defined by the currently selected KUID during vector export.

Now, to export several vector layers upon route creation time, you should:
  1. Export the terrain and raster map in the first step to create the route, usually with some railway vector data also active, to serve as a baseboard generation filter.
  2. Load one layer of vector data in TransDEM, e.g. rail
  3. Run the vector data exporter, select a KUID for a track spline, and export to the the route created in step 1.
  4. Delete all vector data in TransDEM and load a second layer, e.g. road
  5. Run the vector data exporter, select a KUID for a road spline, and export to the the route created in step 1.
  6. Repeat the last two steps for every additional vector layer.
  7. Import the route into Trainz with Content Manager and start editing in Surveyor.

Hello Roland,

Very nice to have several options available 8-) .
