Thank you both for clarification of the processes to add more than one type of vector data to a route. The best process is obviously geophil's to make all the additions through TransDEM during the first export session to TRAINZ. It is nice to know that further addition of vectors to a route is possible after having done all three exports and begun modifications in Surveyor.

Is there any hope for adding vectors after a route has been merged with another (or others)?

It seems to me TransDEM would give TRAINZ the locations of the vector data, and TRAINZ would put it in the correct part of the merged route, but how often could such vector exports to merged routes be done?

It can be done and there is no limitation here. Three preconditions:
  1. The TransDEM version must fully support the Trainz version, because TransDEM must read and interpret route files written by Trainz Surveyor. Minimum TransDEM version is 1.3 for TRS2004 and the TRS2006 family, TransDEM 2.0 for TS2009, TransDEM 2.1 for TS2010 and TransDEM 2.2 for TS12.
  2. The round trip scheme must be followed: Use Trainz Content Manager to "open the route for edit" and make sure the route actually exported is the only one with that name in the export destination folder. Apply TransDEM vector export to the route opened for edit by Trainz Content Manager. Commit the changes in Trainz Content Manager.
  3. The Trainz World Origin must have been fixed after merging two modules, see here: http://forum.transdem.de/viewtopic.php?p=874#p874

Hello,

I'm trying to create a track into an existing route. I have done several tests during the past week in TS10 and TS 12 but for some unknown reason, some of my tests were not succesful.

I will show you one of my tests as an example.

1) I opened transdem - opened my dem, raster map and route L66 ( see picture )

Image

I create the map, the utm tiles and spline track without any problem.

In CMP I import the route into trainz. No problems

I open trainz and save the route with a different name ( now the route is called L66a

2) I want to add route L50A to the existing L66 ( see picture )

Image

I open CMP en open route L66a for editing

In transdem I click on the button - Creates Utm tile objects ...

And I get Image - which is a logical warning.

I click on ja ( yes ) and afterwards I'm getting the following warning

Image

I click on OK and commit the route L66a in CMP.

Trainz is started and I had a look at the route L66a - no extra baseboards are added to the L66a route.

Does anyone know the reason why this happens?

Thank You

Best regards

Kurt

Kurt, it appears you are trying to add UTM tiles instead of vector data to your existing route. And the UTM tiles, marked by your rectangular mask and your polylines, may already exist in your route.

Hello Roland,

Thank you for your reply.

Oeps, forgot to mention something. I also clicked the create track splines button after the UTM already exists warning.

I then committed the route L66a in CMP.

Then started trainz and had a look at the L66a route - No track, no baseboards were added.

Best regards

Kurt

Was there any message in TransDEM when adding your vector data to the route?

Hello Roland,

After clicking on the button, no Transdem message was received.

And you are sure you added your polylines to the correct route? Remember that Content Manager creates new cryptic route names when opening a route for export and a route with the same name already exists in the same folder.

Hello Roland,

Yes, I'm sure - checked it multiple times.

However, when the baseboards already exist - the track spline is visible within the route

I did the following : because adding route L50a and the creation of the track spline was not successful, I removed Line L50a and entered line 51a ( see picture )

Image

As you can see the route L51A is also in the same frame as the picture with only route L66 in it.

When I open the route L66a for editing and click on create track spline in transdem, commit the route L66a in CMP and have a look at the route in Trainz, the track spline is present ( visible ).

I used the same type of route ( gpx ).

Best regards

Kurt

Kurt, you cannot add baseboards to existing route this way. If you want to do that, create a new route for the extension in TransDEM and merge in Surveyor. Carefully adjust the export range, so that you have adjacent baseboards in the original and in the new route. The baseboards will then merge seamlessly (as long as you stay in UTM zone 31. You will in this case). Don't forget to let TransDEM repair the world origin in the merged route afterwards.

If you are in doubt whether vectors were successfully added to an existing route, re-read the vectors from the route. Clear all vector data in TransDEM and call the "Import Track Splines" function in the Trainz drop-down menu.
