Can't export UTM tiles

#1 Post by dusty_pockets »

Have read documents, and watched the tutorials. But, when trying to export UTM tile objects, always get (Limitation Applies) text in the export window. When I go ahead with export, none of the overlay maps draw into trainz surveyor. I've tried with ortho UTM and basic UTM but nothing is working. The route I'm wanting to build is between 40 & 50 miles end to end. Haven't found information on exporting multiple batches of UTM tiles or if it's even possible. Is it not possible to create a route over 10 or 15 miles long using TransDEM?

That's quite some task. I would definitely start with something much smaller. Keep in mind you have to work on every single of these hundreds or maybe even thousands of baseboards in Surveyor to create your scenery. Work in modules. Later when you are done with each module, merge seamlessly in Surveyor (a TransDEM feature).

Unfortunately, not after the massive file format changes in several Trainz versions back.

Sure it is, but every geo data source, DEM, raster maps and even vector data may hit memory or algorithm limits. Vector data in your case, when used as path for UTM tile acquisition. Simplify the vector data for this purpose, as few polylines and points as possible. Surveyor, by the way, has its own import limitations.

Thank you for breaking it down for me a little. So, I can generate a few baseboards at a time and as I build more of the route? I can merge the routes together in trainz surveyor? What are the prerequisites for merging transdem routes in trainz? I tried to merge two very small sections which were generated using transdem, and I can't get around the error indication regarding merging the terrain. Thank you for your response to my original post.

follow up: I tried generating only 2 tiles, following mp451 trainz 2022 tutorial, and still no luck with UTM tiles appearing in trainz surveyor.

Seamless merging: The tutorial is older, but you should get the gist: viewtopic.php?t=426

Did you you succeed with the original "Muengsten" tutorial from the TransDEM manual?
