I get this error no matter if the check box is checked.

I have TransDem latest version on win 64-bit with 32 gigs of ram

I have a dem that covers a large part of the east coast, its 14gig.
My route also covers most of that.

When I try to save the route, it gives me this error.

The numbers in the boxes that are automatically put in there by your program based on my DEM file are:
Zone: 18R
Easting: 4294962583 x 1000m
Northing: 6002 x 1000m

TransDem 2.6.2.0 with 14gig Dem file created with 1/9 arc sec data and the entire usa TL_2016_us_rails.shp file route.

The problem is caused by loading a .shp file as your route that is from

https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/tiger- ... -shapefile

Load tl_2016_us_rails.shp with any dem.

And then save it.

This dialog then pops up.

The shape file is so large that it causes number entry to be beyond your limit.

So I trimmed the shapefile to only include the east coast, i think having a shapefile that covers 1/4 the earth is not so good.
I used the program OpenJUMP to trim the shape file to not include areas outside the east coast.
http://openjump.org/

No more error.

Solution: trim the shape file to not include such a large area with openjump.

I trimmed it to only include an area a bit bigger than my dem.

For vector route data, TransDEM uses the .str text file format which saves UTM coordinates with an offset. Normally, the automatically calculated preset should work. It does not in your case, obviously. From the coordinates in the status bar of your screenshot you are nominally in UTM zone 17, not 18, and the calculated offset for the easting would be negative. You can try to manually set this offset. In your example, you could try 0. It might then take all of the shape file but I won't bet on it.

Shape files are in geographic coordinates, but all TransDEM data is in UTM coordinates which are subject to zonal partitioning.
