I have just bought TransDEM and been practising the tutorials. Tried to use my own route, but the open street map goes to a black screen when I start zooming in. As a newbie I haven't a clue where to start. Any step by step help would be greatly appreciated.

Just tried again after getting a message and re-installing C++.Got the map but then when I clicked on 'get map' I get the message "Follow-up error getting map." Now I am back to black squares.

Is Open Street Map (OSM) the only map tile source with a black preview? Their servers suffer from the enormous popularity of OSM and sometimes simply can't cope with demand. I just checked a minute ago and it was back to normal for me.

The "follow-up" error is TransDEM's basic interpretation of an http request going wrong in some unexpected way. Unfortunately, not much one can do about it, apart form trying again later.

Tried to use another map. I only seem to have Google maps and Street maps. black tiles with both and also message Follow-up error getting map.
Re-installed the program no different.
Do I need to do anything with the map tile samples?
I am wondering if I have a corrupt file somewhere and how to fix it?

I assume you imported the sample configurations attached to my delivery email. This should give you a number of choices of map tile providers. Does selecting any of the global providers MS, Google, Yahoo or OSM in combination with tile type "map" produce any result in the preview window?

If not, how is this particular machine running TransDEM connected to the internet?

I have just read your message so tried again and made notes to see how far I got.
Would you believe it, I have saved a Google earth map and a open street map, no problem.
I have not altered anything since last time, so I do not know what the problem was, I just hope it doesn't come back.
Will try to create my route later today and see how I get on.
I am running Talk Talk broadband with an Ethernet cable connection. Is it possible the problem could be with Talk Talk, as sometimes I cannot get into my e mails?

Thanks for your patience with me.
Lorraine

Just thought I would let you know I have managed to import a small route into Trainz 2010. :D
On another attempt I managed to get the roads as well but not worked how I got them. Anyway I am at least making progress and keep forgetting the time, how it flies when you are enjoying yourself.
Thanks again for all your help
