I'm running TranDEM Trainz Edition (64bit) Version 2.6.1.0. When I create DEM and Ground Textures, I choose T:ANE under Trainz Version, then select "Route Only" under 5M grid. I don't think that choice is working for me. The output is identical to selecting "None" under 5M grid. The other choice, "All" works fine and creates a very large GND file.

I've tried 5M Grid "Route Only" with both a simple route and a complex route. I've also tried it with a small DEM and a large DEM. The 5M Grid "Route Only" output is always identical to 5M Grid "None" output. Is it a bug?

"Route only" should make the 5m grid for only those baseboards with route polylines on top, all others should be 10m grid. "None" should create every baseboard as 10m and "All" should make all baseboards 5m. At least that's the intention.

How did you verify the result in Trainz Surveyor?

Thanks. I haven't verified in Surveyor. I'm just looking at the files that TransDEM creates in the output (route) folder. In particular, the GND file. If I use "All", the GND file size is very large (as expected). If I use "None", the GND file size is much smaller (as expected). However, if I use "Route Only", the GND file size is identical to using "None" (regardless of how many polylines I have). That doesn't seem normal to me.

Not sure if this matters, but I'm exporting the entire work area (without using a rectangular mask).

Yes, the size of the .gnd file should give a clue. So I ran a little test myself. In TransDEM I loaded a map and created flat DEM placeholder data, then displayed the baseboard grid in TransDEM. Drew an export mask that enclosed exactly two baseboards. Drew a line across one of the two baseboards. Made three exports for the 5m grid: "None", "Route only" and "All". This resulted in the following .gnd file sizes:
  • None: 54KB
  • Route only: 101 KB
  • All: 148 KB
All as expected.

(Using TransDEM 2.6.3 here, but that's minor detail. It won't alter anything regarding the 5m filter. You can download and install the patch to 2.6.3 from my website.)

OK, thanks. I tried your test (load a map, create flat DEM placeholder data, use an export mask that encloses two baseboards, with a polyline across one of the baseboards, and make three exports: "None", "Route only" and "All"). Same problem as before (no difference between None and Route Only). But then I discovered something. If I run the same test with "Route Filter" selected, everything works as expected!
