I wanted to try to export track splines using 3-D instead of 2-D but regardless of what I try it seems to be greyed out.

You would need proper 3d vectors for this, i.e. your vectors must have a z (elevation) component. Ordinary vector data does not have this third dimension. The examples I showed were either created with an external CAD-like editor or originated from railway GIS data.

(You can try to outsmart TransDEM by using the "Adopt terrain elevations" in the "Route" menu, but the results will not meet your expectations.)

That explains that then. I thought I had switched it on once but I guess I was wrong :oops:
