As a newbie, I'm trying to find the best US topo maps available for use with TransDEM. Where can I find them? Also which format is best for input into TransDEM (jpg, btm, etc.)

Without a doubt, the best Topographic maps available for the US are the USGS National Maps that can be obtained 'through' TransDEM by way of the WMS option. Click on the Raster Map menu and scroll down and select Web Mapping Services. In the dialogue box that opens, Double Click on USA/Canada at the bottom of the list (which automatically gets TransDEM to connect to the server) and from the list that appears, choose USGS National Map. This expands another list from which you should Double Click on DRG_24K, which expands a further list showing the areas covered, listed by their Zones. Click on the Zone appropriate for your area and fill in the appropriate information (latitude and longitude, et c.) in the other panels of the dialogue box and TransDEM will open the viewing pane for you to move around and zoom in and out to get the desired end result.
