Re: TransDEM feet to meters conversion problem on custom DEM

Yeah, smooth would be a bit better as some of the mountains did look too sharp around the edges of the contour lines and fake. Cliffs aren't much of a concern as I can make those as splines on the final route. The elevation on the Edwards map I've been working to make the DEM with isn't too detailed ...

Re: TransDEM feet to meters conversion problem on custom DEM

Alrighty. I realized I was able to save the control points and make a whole new DEM. They came out at the right elevations. Guess it was because with the last attempt, I kept saving each elevation stage with my control points and rendered the DEM each time, which exaggerated the elevation.

Looks ...

Re: TransDEM feet to meters conversion problem on custom DEM

I’m afraid not. Somehow the old DEM has a max elevation of 6,030 feet. Since it’s merged with parts of England and Mann, I’d assume it came from those. However, with a brand-new map I made, strangely the elevation came out at 28,539 feet! Max height at Culdee Fell Summit is supposed to be at 3,948 ...

Re: TransDEM feet to meters conversion problem on custom DEM

Ohh yeah, I made it myself as I specified in the first post. It was the Sodor map I also posted an inquiry about in another post. The first one I made was based off a couple of DEM's I gathered of the area around England and the Isle of Mann. However, the problem persisted even making the map ...

TransDEM feet to meters conversion problem on custom DEM's

Howdy. I'm making this topic to inquire how to fix TransDEM so it properly ports custom DEM's into Trainz made with height values in feet to meters.

I've been able to make a good custom DEM with the right height values as measured in feet, however, I noticed when I port the map into Trainz, the ...

Re: How to convert scanned maps to DEM's exportable to Train

It's doable.

Firstly, the georeferencing. It needs a reference point and scale.

If you want to put it in the Irish Sea, I suggest to pick a point using real world data. You could use OpenStreetMap or OpenTopoMap (via the map tile client), obtain a map clipping of the Irish Sea and decide on a ...

How to convert scanned maps to DEM's exportable to Trainz?

Howdy. I'd like to ask how you can convert simple maps into DEM maps with actual elevation points that you can be able to convert into Trainz.

The map in particular I am referencing to is as linked.

Ability to import Track data set at real-life elevation?

I've heard from some friends of mine that you could be able to port route data regarding tracks, roads etc. on TransDEM routes into Trainz that are set that the height elevation they would be in real life. I believe its something that has to do with what's called "vector data" but I've not heard ...
