I just answered my own question.
Tutorial 4 tells me now to get map tiles.
Let me try that.
Still learning,
Roy

Re: Map Quality
To answer a few of your suggestions.
I used 1:24000 scale.
My map for the Muengsten tutorial was exactly like the picture, except I didn't have the area shown on page 54 with all the black detail. Used Wireframe, still nothing.
I committed all the UTM tiles to Trainz. The "commit" was greyed out ...

Re: Map Quality
Thanks Jerker,
If I could get a map like the one you show in your post, I would be more than please. I could work with this.
If I zoom in to the level you show, I get nothing but brown smudges here and there with no definition at all.
I agree that I must be missing something somewhere.

Re: Map Quality
geophil & T8DaGr8,
I really appreciate the comments that both of you made.
Please understand that I'm new to all this. I've only had Trainz a couple of weeks, although I've used MSTS for years and have several years expierence building routes. Everything is different here and I've still got a lot ...

It seems you missed the intent of my post. I can assure you that I have studied the manuals and tutorials numerous times, but the answer seems to be that it is impossible to get a crisp, sharp image of the raster file the way that TransDem presently works.
My post was to suggest that if the ...

Re: Map Quality
Is it possible to just export the Raster map to Trainz without the DEM?
When I look at my map of the whole area an area not covered by the DEM is clear and sharp.
If this is possible, I could put in all the roads, railroads, textures, etc. from the map, but the route would be flat.
If so, would ...

Re: Map Quality
Thanks Damien and Jerker for your response.
I am trying to replicate the Lancaster & Chester exactly as it is, so if a trainman from the L & C would use it he would know exacltly where he is.
A sharp image map would greatly help in placing roads, streams, buildings, etc., but it seems this is not ...

Map Quality
On the front page of the TransDem Trainz Edition manual is a picture that shows all the detail as sharp, clear and readable. If I pull up one of the .tga files in PhotoShop is clear and legible.
However, my map that I exported to is hardly legible. It's hard to identify roads, streets and even ...

Re: Exporting DEM
Thanks Geophil,
Okay, you've answered my next question.
There is a 15 mile route that branches off my main line and I wanted to add that. I did not draw the polyline over this part when I did the original.
So, check me on this to see if I am right.

Re: Exporting DEM
OK. I have completed the Muengsten tutorial and everything worked out fine.
Had some trouble with the Content Manager. When I clicked "Open For Edit" the two files weren't there. I clicked "Today" and they appreared. I selected the 3 files and clicked Edit. The Commit function was greyed out. I ...
