One meter NED DEMs are available for selected locations from the The National Map at usgs.gov. They cover areas of 10000 x 10000 meters and are compressed files that are 250 - 300 Mb. When fully-extracted they can be nearly 800 Mb, of course.
Current coverage includes nearly all of the states of ...

Re: US National Map Historical Topographic Quadrangles
Here is a note I received this afternoon that supports geophil's guess:
"Hello,
There is a temporary issue with the database that is not providing links to the GeoPDF files. It has been reported but in the meantime, you can access the GeoPDF download by clicking the Info/Metadata link in the ...

Re: US National Map Historical Topographic Quadrangles
I have not contacted USGS yet, but I will let them know. I will share what I learn with this community.

US National Map Historical Topographic Quadrangles
I have recently tried to download 7.5-minute 1:24,000 quadrangles from the US National Map and noticed the only option offered on the original TNM download browser page is GeoTIFF. Simply clicking on the "download" will get you a GeoTIFF. Alarming, because my version 2.6.0.1 does not read that ...

Re: Norton Power Eraser Encounter
I do not recall Norton Power Eraser noting anything specific about the three applications, including TransDEM, other than that they were unsafe. I am not really keen to run it again.
My account in the first posting was not correct about dBase because Power Eraser removed dbase.exe from the folder ...

Norton Power Eraser Encounter
My Symantec Norton Anti-virus showed an error during download of new virus definitions, so it directed me to the Symantec website to do a manual download. When this did not work, the recommended second step was to download and run Norton Power Eraser.
Upon completion, Norton Power Eraser gave ...

Re: Automatic Cropping of USGS GeoPDF
You are correct, Sharknose.
Initial conversion to UTM converts the margins, too leaving a white mess!
The sequence that works and that worked for me in the first post (but I forgot the two steps) was the same as you describe:
o Open the GeoPDF in TransDEM (margins are white)
o Click on the ...

Automatic Cropping of USGS GeoPDF
The Resources thread about USGS GeoPDF (http://forum.transdem.de/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=236&start=0) gives very clear instructions for importing these into TransDeM and converting them into georeferenced maps for further use. This is great!

Re: USGS GeoPDF
Here is a follow-up on my postings on this thread from July 15 and 16.
After a fresh download of the zip file from USGS, I was able to process the same PA_Catasauqua map in TransDEM that had failed earlier.
I suspect my having used TerraGo utilities on the map downloaded earlier may have somehow ...

Re: USGS GeoPDF
Thanks for the help, Sharknose. Unfortunately, when I tried it with one GeoPDF, I got the little rolling, light blue circle telling me the computer was thinking. After about 5 minutes, TransDEM was no longer responding to Windows 7. This was loading a 1964 map for PA_Catasauqua. I did have some ...
